The activity helps strengthen listening skills and enable students to learn through real-life experiences. It also encourages them to think about situations from other people’s perspectives.
Working in groups of 4–5, have the students use the role play character sheet to think about the type of person this character is: what motivates them, how they react in emergency situations as well as any physical traits they have that can be adopted.
While each group performs their scenario, a freeze frame device can be used at key points to explore when and why an unsafe decision is made and to look at how characters might be feeling at that specific moment.
The activity can be extended into a 2–3-session project to fully immerse participants in the topic and reinforce their understanding of these important issues.
