Easter weekend book end shouts for St Davids RNLI inshore lifeboat
St Davids RNLI were tasked to two rescues marking the start and end of the Easter weekend.
At 3.40pm on Thursday 17th April, St Davids inshore lifeboat was requested to assess a small motorboat capsized at Newgale with two people onboard.
The occupants were safe and well on the beach with Broad Haven coastguard team, but with concerns for the safety of the vessel, and no means of taking the boat directly off the beach, St Davids volunteers made an assessment and decided to escort the 12 foot boat on its return to Porthclais harbour as it still had power. However once underway, the motorboat ran out of fuel so with no means of propulsion, the lifeboat helm authorised a tow to ensure the safety of the vessel occupant.
Once the motorboat was safely ashore at Porthclais, inshore lifeboat Marian and Alan Clayton returned to station at 6.24pm.
At 5.50pm on Easter Monday, 21st April, inshore lifeboat Alan and Marian Clayton was tasked to a report of a dog fallen from cliffs at Caerfai Bay. The volunteer crew made best speed to locate the dog in the sea but sadly it did not survive the fall. The crew were able to reunite the pet with the owners at Caerfai beach who were supported by St Davids Coastguard team. The inshore lifeboat returned to station at 7.00pm, and was back ready for service at 7.10pm.
