Swanage RNLI celebrate as volunteer crew member passes out as Helm
Volunteers at Swanage RNLI lifeboat station are celebrating as crew member Alice Haw ‘passes out’ as an Inshore lifeboat (ILB) Helm.
On April 6th 2025, Alice took the final assessment to ‘pass out’ as a Helm on the Inshore lifeboat at Swanage RNLI lifeboat station. Winds that morning meant that the final decision for the assessment to take place was left until that morning, and luckily for Alice and her assessor Paul Taylor, they were able to go ahead.
Following the completion of the thirteen Helm training modules, and her final assessment, Alice said, “Today has been the result of months of hard work, and I’m proud that it’s all paid off and that I’m going to be able to use this opportunity to give back to the local community.”
Alice has been a member of the volunteer crew in Swanage for eight years, and was inspired to join after growing up watching her dad, retired Swanage coxswain Christopher Haw, head out on the lifeboat. Returning to town following a move away, Alice joined the RNLI crew in Swanage, where she serves as a volunteer crew member, and navigator on both the All- weather lifeboat (ALB), George Thomas Lacy, and the Inshore lifeboat, Roy Norgrove.
