Yarmouth RNLI tasked in the early hours to grounded fishing boat
On Wednesday 30 April, Yarmouth RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat ‘17-25 Eric and Susan Hiscock ‘Wanderer’’ was tasked by HM Coastguard to assist a 32ft fishing boat which had gone aground just outside of Keyhaven Estuary.
Yarmouth RNLI crew were paged at just after 1:45am as a call had come in from a two person crew onboard a fishing boat that had unfortunately gone aground 0.5 nautical miles from Keyhaven Estuary.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat launched from their berth at Yarmouth Harbour shortly after 2am and arrived on scene within 30 minutes of launching. Due to the low tide around the casualty vessel, Yarmouth RNLI deployed their Y-boat to make contact with the crew to determine any injury or damage.
Having established no immediate danger, the casualty was content in awaiting for the next high water to attempt self recovery.
The RNLI Y-boat returned to the all-weather lifeboat and the crew began their passage back to Yarmouth at 3am, and after completing their return to station checks, Yarmouth RNLI were marked as ready for service at 3.35am.
The casualty vessel managed to recover with the assistance of Lymington RNLI around lunchtime on Wednesday 30 April.
