Tideway, builders of London’s ‘super sewer’ support the RNLI.
Tideway is responsible for the building of a 15½-mile ‘super sewer’ under the River Thames to clean up the river for the good of the city and its wildlife.
A cleaner, healthier River Thames
The 15½-mile sewer will intercept and transport millions of tonnes of raw sewage that spill into the river each year. Tunnelling begins in 2018 and the project will be complete by 2024.
A lasting legacy for London
Tideway aims to leave a wider legacy than just environmental – in areas such as local employment and the river economy. With a commitment to moving ‘more by river’ Tideway will use river transport to remove 90% of the material excavated to create the main tunnel.
To ensure the highest standards of health and safety, Tideway works closely with organisations on the River Thames, including the RNLI.
We are delighted that Tideway has committed a financial donation to support the costs of crew kit at Tower Lifeboat Station – the RNLI’s busiest lifeboat station – in 2018.
In addition to this, Tideway employees are supporting the RNLI through a variety of volunteering roles, including:
- London Lifeboat Day
- youth education – Junior Citizenship schemes
- community safety projects.
Tideway and the RNLI continue to work closely together to identify areas of collaboration around community safety by the River Thames.
